Marceline,
MO
– The Marceline City
Council convened a public hearing on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. to
discuss proposed utility rate increases aimed at addressing the rising costs of
providing essential services to the community. Public notice of the hearing was
provided through advertisement in the Linn County Leader on November 1st,
November 15th, and November 29th, along with being posted
at City Hall and on the City’s website. After a thorough review and discussion,
the council unanimously approved the following bills into ordinance form:
-
BILL NO. 24-12-010:
A 5% increase in water rates.
-
BILL NO. 24-12-011:
A 13% increase in electricity rates.
-
BILL NO. 24-12-012:
A 5% increase in wastewater rates.
These adjustments mark the first
increases in water and wastewater rates since 2018. The electricity rate, last
increased in 2009, was even decreased by 5% in 2018, reflecting the City’s
ongoing commitment to keeping utilities as affordable as possible. These rates
are effective January 1, 2025.
The City Council recognizes the
impact these increases may have on residents and appreciates the community's
understanding. With the rising costs of operations and maintenance, these
changes are necessary to ensure the continued delivery of reliable and
sustainable water, wastewater, and electric services for Marceline.
The City of Marceline remains
committed to transparency and fiscal responsibility in addressing the
community's needs. For questions or additional information, please contact City
Hall.
The public may view the new
rates on the City’s website along with the expected pre-tax utility bill
increases based on consumption by utility service at:
