City of Marceline to Begin Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Meter Installation Project

Marceline, MO - The City of Marceline is pleased to announce that installation of its new Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system will begin next week.  The electric meter installation is expected to begin on Monday, August 10, 2026 and the water meter installation to begin on Monday, August 17, 2026. Residents can expect the meter replacement process to take approximately 60 to 90 days to complete.

The installation will be performed by VEPO Metering, a subcontractor working on behalf of the City's AMI vendor, Core & Main. To help residents easily identify authorized installation personnel:

  • VEPO Metering vehicles will display City of Marceline logo magnets.
  • Installation crews will wear high-visibility safety vests.
  • All personnel will carry company identification badges.

Most meter replacements are expected to be completed quickly, although some installations may require coordination with the property owner. VEPO Metering representatives will work to minimize any inconvenience during the installation process.  Door knockers will be posted on building doors following meter installation.

Residents who experience any issues or have questions during the installation may contact VEPO Metering directly at 877-860-8376.

Billing Information

At this time, customers' utility billing cycle will remain the same throughout the installation process. The City is evaluating future billing enhancements that may be available once the AMI system is fully operational. Should any changes to the billing cycle occur in the future, customers will be notified well in advance.

About the AMI Project

The Advanced Metering Infrastructure project is a significant investment in Marceline's utility system and is designed to improve the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of water and electric meter readings.

Following a competitive vendor evaluation process, the Marceline City Council selected Core & Main in November 2025 to provide the City's AMI system after it was determined the company offered the best overall value. The project includes the installation of a modern communications network, meter data management software, new meter installation, employee training, and ongoing support.

The City already had approximately 150 compatible iPERL water meters installed throughout the community, allowing those meters to remain in service and reducing the number of new meters that must be installed as part of the project.

The new AMI system will provide numerous long-term benefits, including:

  • Improved accuracy of water and electric meter readings.
  • Faster identification of leaks and abnormal water usage.
  • More efficient meter reading operations.
  • Enhanced customer service through more timely and reliable consumption data.
  • Modernized utility infrastructure that supports future service improvements.

The City appreciates residents' patience and cooperation during the installation process as this important infrastructure improvement is completed.
