Marceline, MO
–
The City of Marceline City Council approved
Resolution No. 26-01, establishing a formal policy for public comment during
City Council meetings at their February Council meeting. The policy is intended
to provide clear expectations for both the Council and members of the public
while ensuring meetings remain organized, respectful, and productive. This
policy is in effect
for the upcoming March City Council Meeting on Thursday, March 12th at 5:30 pm.
Public participation is an important part of the
meeting process, and the new policy outlines simple procedures for individuals
who wish to address the Council. Residents who would like to speak during the
public comment portion of a meeting will be asked to sign in and provide their
name and address for the official record.
Under the policy:
-
Individuals wishing to speak will be recognized by the meeting chair.
-
Speakers will be given three (3) minutes to make their comments.
Additional time may be granted by a motion and vote of the Council if
needed.
-
Comments should be directed to the full Council.
-
A respectful and orderly meeting environment will be maintained.
The policy also encourages speakers to clearly
identify themselves for the record and to provide any written materials to the
City Clerk prior to the meeting if they wish those materials to be shared with
the Council.
City officials emphasize that the goal of the
policy is to ensure all voices have the opportunity to be heard while
maintaining an efficient and respectful meeting environment for everyone in
attendance.

Resolution No. 26-01 is posted on the City’s website (https://marcelinemo.us/government/agendas/Res_26-01_PublicComment_Approved.pdf)
