Special Election:  Municipal Swimming Pool

Marceline, MO  On August 18, 2015, the Marceline City Council approved Ordinance #15-07.19 calling for a special election to authorize the City to impose a ½ cent city-wide sales tax to finance the acquisition, Construction and operation of a Municipal Swimming Pool.  The election will be held on November 3, 2015 to qualified voters within the City limits.  The ballot language is as follows:

2015 LOCAL PARKS SALES TAX

Shall the City of Marceline, Missouri (the “City”) impose a sales tax of one half (1/2) of one percent on all retail sales made in the City which are subject to taxation under the provisions of Sections 144.010 to 144.525 of the Revised Statutes of the State of Missouri for the purpose of providing funding for the acquisition, construction, furnishing and future operation of a municipal swimming pool to be located in the City’s Walt Disney Park?  The collection of this proposed sales tax is not to begin until the general obligation bond issue to complete the funding of the Swimming Pool receives approval by the voters as well.

                                                Yes      _____

                                                No        _____

If you are in favor of the question, place an “X” in the box opposite “Yes”.  If you are opposed to the questions, place an “X” in the box opposite “No”.

Implementation of proposed ½ cent Sale Tax (November Ballot) is contingent upon the passing of a $1 Million Bond Initiative on the April 2016 ballot.   If the April’s Bond Issue fails, the ½ cent Sales tax does not go into effect.  If both ballot issues pass, the following retail services will be taxed:  All retail purchases within the City Limits, including motor vehicles, dining, groceries and some non-domestic utilities in the same manner as the Transportation Sales Tax.  Domestic utilities (water/electric) and fuel will not be taxed.  The tax will not be collected from any sale which is otherwise exempt pursuant to the Missouri sales tax laws.
