City Council Announces Utility Rate Increase Following Public Hearing

 

Marceline, MO The Marceline City Council convened a public hearing on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. to discuss proposed utility rate increases aimed at addressing the rising costs of providing essential services to the community.  Public notice of the hearing was provided through advertisement in the Linn County Leader on November 7th, along with being posted at City Hall and on the City’s website and social media. Following the Public Hearing, the Council unanimously approved the proposed utility rate increases by approving Resolution No. 25-03 setting the Master Fee Schedule for water, electric, and wastewater rates including the proposed increases.  The Council also approved three Bills into into ordinance form to repeal and replace the sections that relate to water, electric and wastewater rates with the replacements stating the user charges will be set by ordinance or resolution.  The user charges (rates) were set by the approval of Resolution No. 25-03.  The approved increases become effective January 1, 2026 are as follows:

The City Council recognizes the impact these increases may have on residents and appreciates the community's understanding. With the rising costs of operations and maintenance, these changes are necessary to ensure the continued delivery of reliable and sustainable water, wastewater, and electric services for Marceline.
