Marceline, MO -
The Marceline City Council approved Ordinance No. 25-11.05 (Bill No. 25-10-004)
amending Chapter 375 of the City Code, which governs bicycles, motorized
bicycles, and other vehicles with an amendment removing the previously proposed
age restriction with certain provisions. This Ordinance goes into effect
December 1, 2025.
Ordinance No.
25-11.05 (Bill No. 25-10-004) introduces new definitions and safety
regulations for motorized skateboards (including stand-up scooters)
and other motorized play vehicles such as mini bikes, pocket rockets, and
similar devices. These updates were to address safety concerns.
Based on the
feedback received prior to the November 12th Council meeting, Mayor
Milford proposed language to amend Section 375.055 A (1) d which provides an
exception that allows for motorized skateboards (includes stand-up scooters) to
be operated by any person with the following provisions:
·
They
are not to be operated after sunset
·
No
passengers are allowed
·
They
may not be operated on State Route JJ and Hwy 5, except to cross them
·
They
are not to be operated on the sidewalks from Santa Fe Avenue to Gracia Avenue.
In addition,
Ordinance No. 12-11.05 provides for parental responsibility concerning motorized
play vehicles and motorized skateboards under Section 375.085, which includes a
fine of not less than five dollars ($5.00) nor more than twenty-five dollars
($25.00)
