Three applications for
the vacant Marceline City Council position were received during the application
period ending December 10, 2024. This position fills the vacancy for the
remainder of the election term due to the resignation of Councilman Josh
Shoemaker.
Interviews were
conducted at a special session of the Marceline City Council on December 10th
and Clarence Gibson was selected for the position. Councilman Gibson will
be sworn in at the regular Council Meeting on January 8th, 2025.
Councilman Clarence
Gibson has resided in Marceline for 20 years and graduated from Marceline R-V in
2002. Clarence has worked in Water/Wastewater treatment for the previous ten
(10) years. Most of this time was spent as a Water Treatment Operator for the
City of Marceline, and later, as Superintendent over Marceline’s Water and
Wastewater facilities. He is currently a Water Treatment Operator for the City
of Brookfield. His wife, Mary, is a graphic designer at Walsworth and their two
children, Lela (13) and Lucas (8) are students at Marceline R-V.
As a reminder, candidate filing for the Marceline City Council will be open
through December 31, 2024. The General Election will be held on Tuesday,
April 8, 2025. Two (2) Councilpersons will be elected at large to serve a three (3) year terms.
