Marceline, MO
- At the Special City Council Meeting on April 12, 2022, one of the Council’s
first actions was to formally recognize the public service of outgoing Council
Members Jeri Holt and Lacey Meissen. Councilman Holt served on the Council
from April 2013 to April 2022 and Councilwoman Meissen served on the Council
from April 2019 to April 2022.
The oath of office was then administered by the City Clerk to newly elected
Council Members Josh Shoemaker and Brian Baker.
Councilman Josh Shoemaker is a lifelong Marceline resident and a member of the
graduating class of 2001. His wife, Megan, is a 5th grade teacher at Disney
Elementary and their three children Hudson (12), Carson (9), and Emerson (7),
all are active members of the community. Shoemaker has spent 17 years in
education splitting his time between teaching at Marceline R-V and currently
serving as District Superintendent at Keytesville R-III. Having previously been
on the Council and served as Mayor in the past, Shoemaker continues the
opportunity to serve the Marceline community.
Councilman Brian Baker has lived in Marceline since 2012 and has served as
Pastor of First Baptist Church since September of that year after serving five
years at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church near Bucklin and a year teaching at
Hannibal Middle School. He is a native of Hannibal and studied at Truman
State University in Kirksville, receiving a B.A. in History (2005) and an M.A.E.
in Secondary Social Studies Education (2008). Baker also continued studies
at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City and received an M.Div.
in 2018. Baker has been active in the Marceline community in that time as
President of Marceline Ministerial Alliance, Ministries in Linn County, and the
Marceline Rotary Club, and has also served on the City of Marceline's Planning
Commission and the Marceline-Bucklin Enhanced Enterprise Zone Board since 2015.
In addition, Brian has served as the accompanist for Marceline High School music
programs since 2016 and volunteers in other capacities with a number of local
schools and other organizations that benefit area youth.
Immediately following the Oath of office was the Council's duty of electing a
new Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem to serve in those positions for 2022-2023.
Councilwoman Sallie Buck was elected by the Council to serve as the Mayor and
Councilman Josh Shoemaker was elected to serve as the Mayor Pro-Tem for the City
Marceline.
