Marceline, MO -
At the City Council
Meeting on May 11, 2023, the Council adopted
Ordinance 23-05.05 to address the increasing difficulty in cemetery
groundskeeping maintenance. Effective today, May 12th, only the following
items will be allowed on cemetery lots within the Mt. Olivet Cemetery:
-
Headstones / markers
-
Shepherds hooks
placed abutting the headstone / marker
-
Mausoleum pads
-
Urns, vases,
artificial flowers and related non-organic material may only be placed on or
within the concrete perimeter of headstones to not interfere with care and
maintenance of the lot.
Except for markers,
memorials, flowers, and urns expressly allowed above, and Veterans Flags as
authorized by law, no other items, including
ornaments, signs, trellises, statues, benches, lighting features, landscaping,
bricks, stones, grave border materials or other structures that hinders the us
of lawn maintenance equipment will be allowed. Such items will be removed
and disposed of by the City without written or verbal notice. Families
with loved ones buried at Mt. Olivet will be given a 30-day grace period to
remove any items prohibited by this new policy.
In addition, no landscape alterations will be authorized to include grading,
digging, mounding or similar alteration of the ground or earth unless authorized
by the Cemetery Sexton and conducted by City Staff.
