Marceline General Election 2015

Marceline, MO Candidate filing for the Marceline City Council closed at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, January 20th.  The General Election for the City of Marceline will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015.  This year, two (2) Councilpersons will be elected at large to serve three (3) year terms.  Currently, those seats are held by Councilman Mark Hatfield and Councilman Jacob Gordon.  Councilman Gordon is currently serving as our Mayor.  The candidates vying for two open seats include Steven Burns, Sallie Buck and Tyson Brammer.  The two individuals receiving the most votes will be elected to serve 3 year terms.

In addition to the Council Election, qualified voters will see a bond issue for a new aquatic center on the ballot.  This is to fund the replacement of the City's current fifty-eight year old pool with a new aquatic center to serve our community in the years to come.  The ballot language will be as follows:

"Shall the City of Marceline, Missouri, borrow money in the amount of Two Million Dollars ($2,000,000) for the purpose of providing funds for the construction, equipping, and furnishing of a new aquatic center on land already owned by the City; and issue bonds for the payment thereof resulting in an estimated increase to the debt service property tax levy of $0.85 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation?  If this proposition is approved, the adjusted debt service levy of the City is estimated to increase from $0.00 to $0.85 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation of real and personal property."

Residents may register to vote for this election at the Linn County Courthouse in Linneus, Missouri until March 11, 2015.
